Weekly news on European alternatives, and how they compare

The EU Alt blog: what changed among the European services that replace the big platforms, and side-by-side comparisons that show what you gain and what you give up.

What's coming

One blog, three kinds of post

Every week, in English. No posts are out yet: the first issue is being written.

Weekly news

Once a week: new European services, launches, price changes, acquisitions and the rules that affect where your data lives.

Comparisons

Side by side: a European service against the one it replaces, or against its European rivals. Features, pricing, ownership, data location.

Switching notes

What moving actually takes: exports, imports, what breaks and what you get back.

Comparisons

Side by side, criterion by criterion

Each comparison puts services next to each other on the same rows: what they do, what they cost, who owns them and where your data is stored. Facts with sources, not a winner picked for you.

A sketch of the comparison layout. The first comparisons are on the way.

How we compare

How a comparison is made

The same three steps for every service, so one comparison reads like the next.

  1. 1

    Start from what you use

A comparison begins with the service you would move away from, and the European options that do the same job.

  2. 2

    Compare on the same rows

Features, price, who owns the company and where the data is stored, filled in for every service alike.

  3. 3

    Link the sources

Every fact links to where it comes from, and each comparison carries the date it was checked.
